Who are we?

The Windsor UNIX Users Group is a non-profit organization of UNIX users and enthusiasts based in Windsor, Ontario. We have been active in the Windsor and Essex County area since 1999, with members from a rich variety of backgrounds. Membership is completely open; to join, simply register on this site, subscribe to the mailing list, and attend meetings when you can.

What do we do?

We are people of all ages, professions, and skill levels who share an interest in UNIX, Linux, and free software. We discuss, support, and promote them in the Windsor area. See here for an idea of what user groups do.

Meetings

Meetings are on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM, at Rock Bottom Bar and Grill (3236 Sandwich St.). The mailing list receives monthly reminders.

Mailing List

The mailing list is open to anyone and can be subscribed to here. It also receives all posts to this forum.

Other Stuff

We also have a member blog aggregator at Planet WUUG and a LibraryThing group where you can browse other WUUG members' technical libraries.

Planet WUUG
We've launched Planet WUUG, a blog aggregator for our members' blogs. Add it to your feed readers! If you have a blog yourself, please let me know where to find it (and send me a 100x100 mugshot), and I'll be happy to add it. It's open to all. We're aiming for generally technical or otherwise on-topic content, so if your blog has unrelated entries, we can grab a particular tag or category's feed.

FSOSS and Ontario Linux Fest
Two exciting events are coming up in Toronto at the end of the month. On October 23 - 24, Seneca@York is hosting the 7th annual Free Software and Open Source Symposium (FSOSS), and then on October 25, the Ontario Linux Fest is back for its second year. If you plan to attend one or both, let the group know.

New Meeting Location
I'm pleased to announce that we've secured a new home for WUUG meetings. It's a very nice seminar room with good capacity at the University of Windsor, in Lambton Tower room 3105 (third floor). This room has a projector and white board, so we can start planning seminars! Member wilsonk is looking into creating a module for our website which will allow voting on proposed seminar topics.
