I wasn't at the last meeting, but maybe it would be a good idea to put a little 'wuug' sign on the table for the newcomers. btw, aaron or alan, can you please allow 'bradbobak@gmail.com' to post to the mailing list, I keep getting 'awaiting moderator approval' messages.

I'd figure I'd ask you guys for suggestions regarding my irc client. I am currently using it for myself, and it seems fairly stable. screenshot -> the red border is only present when you are scrolling up and not viewing the last line of the channel. the yellow horizontal line occurs to show where the last message was if you've switched to another tab, then switched back. How are these implemented if they exceed the windows bounds? Is a new window created at the appropriate postion holding the pulldowns data? Or is there a way to get X to display a pulldown menu that exceeds the windows dimensions?

Thanks to the reference to xdg-open. I'm going to take a look at it, as it may be useful for my gui to detect what window manager / DE is running. As for now, I'm letting the user select their browser in my preferences dialog, maybe I will make a 'autodetect' button or somesuch. As for the offer for your python code, I don't really want to bring python in for running my app, but it may be hel

My irc client is coming along and now I'd like the user to be able to click a url and have the client open a browser. Does anyone know how to determine what app to launch depending on the users browser preference? I am assuming this will be different across different desktops such as gnome / xfce / etc. If someone can point me in some direction regarding this, it would be appreciated.

I've listed a dual 300mhz octane on kijiji for sale for $100. If anyone in wuug wants this system, I will sell it to them for $80.

It just uses the default window type which at this time is a standard window with a backbuffer using a 'surface' that is drawn to using my own drawing primitives. Eventually there will be other window types, such as a window that is drawn to using the api's drawing functions (such as Xlib's rectangle drawing functions, winapi's drawing functions). There will also be (eventually) window types

Can I keep formatting of blocks inside phorum? My code example I posted elsewhere has justified everything to the left, making things harder to read.

Well, I've decided to post a small (working) example using my gui (SMG). I've documented the code to explain what I am doing. Don't mind my excessive use of access modifiers (private:, etc). I use these to separate my class 'sections'. #include "smg_app.hpp" #include "widgets/smgw_button.hpp" #include "widgets/smgw_label.hpp" #include "contain

The sparcserver 10 I have is not an ultra 10. Just a plain old sparcserver 10. It does have 2 cpus, not sure of the speed.

I have a sparc server 10 and an ultra 1 around if you want these. I'm not sure what I have for ram, but its yours. I may also have a small sized hard drive for these (with the hard drive mounting rails). Plus I have a few scsi cards with external connector, and one or two videa cards.

My friend is trying to allow http requests to get to one of his lan computers. The problem is that his ISP assigns him a private address (10.x.x.x). He does have another static IP box on the internet, so the question is, is there a way to get his static IP box to forward HTTP requests on port 80 to some port on his 'private WAN address' computer?

Well, I had to do this again, so here it is. I was getting tired of wadling through many documentations so I have compiled this which outlines what I did to net install SXCE build 106 from an ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 machine to a sunblade 1000. # get the .iso of the sparc image of SXCE. You can find this somewhere on www.opensolaris.org. Be sure to get the full dvd image. # I have downloaded sol

I spent hours trying to figure out why my wireless access point would not allow a ssh connection to my nokia. There is a bug (power saving feature) in the nokia OS2008 (maybe others) that may cause ssh (and other) connections from your wlan to the nokia to not work correctly. This can be fixed by running in the xterm on the nokia (you don't need to be root) gconftool-2 --set --type int '/

This is outdated. Please see the above url. I have added an entry to my blog containing tips for installing solaris for sparc (SXCE build 99 in my case) over the network from a linux box (I used ubuntu). It references another link, which is the main install guide I have used. I have just commented things I had to do differently. www.sandmines.org is the url. Edit: That uel no long

Well, since I have a new main sun box, I can also give away a card with external fast-wide single-ended scsi plug. The card also has a 10 / 100 nic on it. It plugs into an ultra 1 (may be compatible with others, I'm not sure).

I also have a sparcserver 10 and an ultra 1 to give away. Plus some assorted external scsi drive bays (I have both wide that holds sca drives as well as the standard scsi bays). I also have an external tape drive (with no tape). I also have a few sca drives (mostly < 4gb). They are untested, but probably work.

I have 2 video cards (both with 13w3c connectors) that will fit into an ultra 1 (maybe other models as well). One has a big chip labelled 'SunGX'. the other has a not so big chip labelled 'Bt458l'. I also have 2 wide-scsi single-ended cards (with external plug only) also from an ultra 1. A regular external-only scsi card from an ultra 1. I also have some ultra 1 + sparcstation 10 memory.

I have just finished a howto as to how to set up a local smtp server to send locally sent mail to the internet. It uses gmail's smtp server to send out. It will also recieve your google mail and forward it to a local accout. This is my first time using postfix and fetchmail, and my first time writing a how-to of any consequence, so please comment! The how-to can be found at www.sandmines.

Well, I managed to get my domain .sandmines.org (which is on the internet and my lan) working using postfix to talk to googles smtp server. Now everything sent to someone@sandmines.org (forwarded to my gmail account) gets propagated from my gmail account to my local lan (via fetchmail). I can now
